THE CONSERVATIVE Party have selected their new parliamentary candidate for the Frome and East Somerset constituency at the next general election.

Lucy Trimnell was selected on Tuesday October 17, and has promised to promote and support local famers as well as campaign to rejuvenate the area’s high streets and urban areas

Ms Trimnell has lived in Somerset for 28 years, and is married with three children.

Now aged 50, Lucy works as a Somerset Councillor and is opposition lead for Public Health, Equality and Diversity.

She has also worked in the education sector, and even served five years in the Royal Navy as part of the Fleet Air Arm.

Cllr Trimnell's campaign focuses strongly on agriculture, as she hopes to promote British produce and ensure farmers are paid a fair price by supermarkets.

In addition, Ms Trimnell is campaigning for the continued integrity of UK agricultural practices, and ensures food safety by not opening up the market to foreign imports which can undermine the work of Somerset farmers.

Furthermore, she is calling for more investment into towns across the constituency, to help reduce the number of empty shops, particularly in Frome.

Finally, Lucy hopes to see more investment in the local roads, and more support for motorists through further funding to fix potholes and more measures to reduce speeding.

She will be working closely with Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Shelford to reduce rural crime and promote road safety.

Following her selection, Lucy said: “I am delighted to have been selected as the Conservative Candidate for the new Frome and East Somerset constituency and I am eager to start knocking on doors and speaking with businesses and residents.

“I am determined to ensure that the people who live and work in Frome and East Somerset have strong representation both locally and in Westminster if I am elected.

"I will be working closely with the MPs in our local area such as Rebecca Pow and Andrew Murrison as well as our fantastic PCC Mark Shelford.

“I will campaign tirelessly to promote and support our local famers and I am committed to being a strong voice for them in Parliament.”
