FIRE crews tackled a fire at a compound at Foxmoor Business Park in Wellington in which around 35 vehicles were damaged.
The fire, believed to have been started "deliberately", broke out at around 9.44pm last night (Tuesday, October 24) and crews were on site until around 2am this morning (Wednesday, October 25).
The fire service said a total of 35 cars at the commercial compound were 100 per cent damaged by the fire.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire control received a call from a member of the public stating there were a couple of cars on fire at this location.
“Control immediately mobilised two fire engines from Wellington to attend.
“Once on scene crews confirmed numerous vehicles were well alight and got to work to extinguish them, at this time they also requested a third appliance be mobilised as well as a water bowser to be mobilised.
“These came from Taunton and Bridgwater respectively, shortly after this message was received crews requested a fourth appliance be mobilised with this one also coming from Taunton.
“This is a fire involving approximately 15 vehicles within a commercial compound - crews were at work with two breathing apparatus and one compressed air foam jet to try and prevent escalation.
“Crews have now requested the attendance of an aerial ladder platform and a second water carrier, with these appliances attending from Taunton and Torquay.
“Crews confirmed this was a fire within a commercial compound involving approximately 35 cars in total, all vehicles have been 100 per cent damaged by fire, and the fire was extinguished using, four breathing apparatus, three attack jets, one aerial ladder platform, small tools, and roughly 35 litres of compressed air foam.
“The incident was handed over to the premises owner and the police.”
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "We were called just before midnight today (Wednesday, October 25) following a report of a fire at Foxmoor Business Park, in Wellington.
"Officers attended along with the fire service to discover around 30-35 cars alight."
"The fire service believes the fire was started deliberately and an investigation has been launched.
