British farming has come a long way since 1910, when seven Warwickshire farmers collaborated to form NFU Mutual.
They started the business to encourage farmers around Stratford-upon-Avon into the newly established farming union through cost price insurance.
And this business has been incredibly successful and long-lasting: the first farming family who took out a policy back in 1910 remain an NFU Mutual insurance customer even now, 11 decades later.
That first customer is one of many farming clients who have been loyal to us throughout the generations - a loyalty that we work hard to retain with 95%* of our farming customers renewing their insurance with us each year.
Part of the Farming Furniture
Since our beginnings in the Midlands, NFU Mutual has become part of the UK’s farming fabric. We’re the leading rural insurer covering small to large farms and everything in between. After all, we know the industry inside-out.
As a mutual, we have no shareholders to generate profits for. We’re here for our members, and it’s our job to be the type of business they like us to be.
We don’t just provide protection for farms. We also give back to the farming community in lots of different ways. For example, in 2022 we invested more than £400,000 into schemes across the UK designed to tackle rural crime**.
Although we’ve grown, we haven’t lost our personal touch – it’s what makes us special. A huge part of this is our unique network of local Agents, who are always on hand to offer face-to-face advice for your farming needs. We now have a network of over 280 local agency offices across the UK. Meaning we can get to know you, your family, and your farm.
Our aim is to deliver a high-quality farm insurance package to meet your needs now, and for the future. So, if you’re looking for greater flexibility, simply talk through your priorities with your Agent. Should your insurance needs change due to growth or diversification, your Agent will be happy to discuss and review your policy with you.
Changing with the Times
Since 1910, we’ve seen huge amounts of change in the farming industry, and with it, both new opportunities and challenges: whether its diversifying, keeping your business secure from cyber-crime, or adopting new technology like precision technology, and renewable energy. We’ve supported farmers throughout these changes.
And of course, like the farmers we work with, we’ve changed with the times. We’ve continually developed our products and services to help give farmers peace of mind.
So, no matter what protection you need from us, you can be sure of comprehensive, personal care that’s over 100 years in the making.
