THREE roads across the Somerset Levels are currently unpassable following Storm Ciarán yesterday (Thursday, November 2).

Somerset Council has announced that the gates at Cutts Road (East Lyng to Athelney), New Road (West Lyng to North Curry) and the Muchelney to Langport road are locked closed due to flooding.

The A361 Burrowbridge to East Lyng is currently open.

As one motorists called us to say: "They've just closed New Road to North Curry - the gates are locked, don't bother trying your luck."

Following severe flooding on the Somerset Levels in 2014, emergency road closure gates were installed at eight locations to help stop vehicles potentially getting stuck in flood waters.

The gates are kept locked open at all times and will only be locked shut when water levels are rising and the road is at risk of becoming impassable.
