TAUNTON Recycling Centre looks set to close early today (Monday, November 13) - its first day of opening following a massive fire.

The site on the Crown Industrial Estate, in Priorswood, welcomed back its first 'tippers' in a month this morning.

But Somerset Council Waste Services now says: "Apologies, we may need to close Taunton Recycling Site slightly early today due to unexpected delays to emergency lighting.

"If it’s light enough we’ll stay open until 5pm as planned. Sorry for any inconvenience."

The site had been closed since fire broke out there in the early hours of October 3.

People were redirected to sites in Wellington or Bridgwater as the Material Recovery Facility was so badly damaged it was considered unsafe.

Following the building's demolition last week, the decision was taken top re-open the Taunton site today.

Somerset Council had warned that the reopened site in Priorswood is likely to be very busy in the first few days.

It is scheduled to open seven days a week between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.

During busier times staff will meet and greet visitors to help with the flow of traffic.
