A COLLISION between two vans blocked the A358 near Taunton in both directions this morning.
Avon and Somerset Police promptly attended the scene.
A police spokesperson confirmed: "Police were called at 7.11am today (Wednesday, November 22) to a collision at the junction of the A358 with the A378 at Thornfalcon, Taunton."
The spokesperson said the collision occurred between a blue Peugeot Boxer van and a white Ford Transit, which were both travelling the same direction.
There were no reports of serious injuries.
Motorists trying to make their way to work were caught in a two-mile traffic tailback that almost reached Ilminster.
Authorities urged the public to carefully plan any journeys in and around the area.
The road was then cleared and reopened by 9am, when traffic began to return to normal.
The police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident or eyewitness accounts to assist with their investigations.
Anyone with information should contact 101 and give the reference 124 of 22 November, or via the online form on the police website, www.avonandsomerset.police.uk.
The stretch of road involved in the incident is proposed to be upgraded into a dual carriageway by National Highways.
The change is a part of long term aim to create a dual carriageway link between London, the South East and the South West.
