A Somerset mum who started a greetings card side hustle from her bedroom has reached one million sales.

Thea Musselwhite, the owner of Bold & Bright, is the creative force behind the popular 'Janice & Jeffrey' card range.

She first started creating greetings cards back in 2017 and has not looked back since.

Ms Musselwhite was inspired by the amusing antics of her children and their dolls, eventually developing the concept of ‘Jeffrey and Janice’, two hilariously blunt characters known for their love of drinks and mischief.

The popular designs have made her one of the most successful creators on card marketplace thortful.

With more than 640 designs to her name, the Somerset-based entrepreneur recently hit the milestone of one million card sales on thortful with her Jeffrey and Janice range.

About the inspiration for her hilarious card series, She explained: "I was surrounded by my kids at the time, they were quite young and my daughter had a lot of dolls.

"My husband used to put the dolls in rude positions in the dollhouse and I thought it would be really funny on a card.

"The cards look quite sweet and innocent at first, but they’re actually not!"

Reflecting on how she manages production while juggling family life, Ms Musselwhite said: "The production is very low-key – it’s all done in my bedroom.

"I have to balance the scene really carefully, sometimes the props fall down and I have to set it all back up again.

"I often have the dog running in and out, so it’s quite unprofessional at times!"

As a testament to her success, she shared: "When I started to hit really high sales on thortful it was a proud moment.

"Obviously reaching 1 million sales is a big achievement too."

Thortful, established in 2016, has since its inception paid over £10 million in royalties to its creators.

It supports over 4,000 independent illustrators, allowing parents, students and creative individuals to develop side hustles, some even leaving their day jobs to become full-time illustrators.

In honour of Small Business Saturday and Black Friday weekend, thortful plans to pay an additional 50% in royalties to all its creators.
