A FORMER EastEnders star will be turning on Burnham's Christmas lights tomorrow (Saturday, November 25).

English film actress and singer, Anita Dobson, will turn on the lights at 6pm.

Anita, who played landlady Angie Watts in the soap opera, will meet with mayor Cllr Lesley Millard and author Damien Boyd.

During her visit, Anita will attend a screening of Christmas At The Holly Day Inn at 7pm at The Ritz Cinema.

Posting on Facebook, a spokesperson from The Ritz Cinema said: "Christmas at the Holly Day Inn is a family-friendly, multi-generational romantic comedy about an over-achieving executive who quits her job just before Christmas and goes to her father's country inn to try to find some balance again."

A spokesperson from MandM Film Productions added: "We did tell you to grab those tickets to watch Christmas at the Holly Day Inn on the big screen.

"Our very good friend Anita Dobson will be making a surprise visit to the screening and will be switching on the Christmas lights in Burnham.

"The Cinema screening SOLD OUT within three days.

"However new screening dates will be available soon!"

The day of festivities will kick off at 1pm. Residents will be able to enjoy fun fair rides all day, with a special appearance by Santa at 3pm.

This event, which is organised by Burnham-on-Sea Chamber of Trade & Commerce and supported by Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council, will come complete with entertainment by the town band, rock choir and more.

There will be some road closures in place on the day.

Posting on social media, the Highbridge & Burnham-on-Sea Carnival said: "This coming Saturday (25th Nov) is the Burnham-on-Sea Christmas Light Switch on Event.

"This event is brought to you by Burnham-on-Sea Chamber of Trade & Commerce & Supported by Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council

"The Carnival Committee are supporting this event with the traffic management.

"Road Closure & Parking Restrictions in effect all day. On Victoria Street, Princess Street and the High Street (from College Street to Regent Street.)"

Businesses and shops will remain open throughout the day, and diversions will be in place.
