RESIDENTS in Taunton joined the Christmas lights switch-on yesterday (Sunday, November 26) to start the festive season.
Crowds gathered in the town centre to join several events organised as part of Winterfest.
The Mayor of Taunton, Cllr Nick O’Donnell, turned on the lights at 6pm.
Thousands of people enjoyed a programme packed full of free family entertainment, including meet and greets with a Snow Queen and a Nutcracker on stilts, a free Santa’s grotto, funfair rides, and a Christmas Market.
Whilst the light switch-on kickstarted the festive calendar, there is plenty more to come with a food festival, craft fayre, and independent market.
The council has also engaged some fantastic street performers, ranging from Bouncy Elves to Squirrel Nutkins, culminating in spectacular fire performances on Saturday 23 December from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
