TAUNTON and surrounding areas have been revealed as the happiest place to live in Somerset according to a recent study.

The Office for National Statistics used the results of a national survey which asked people to rate their level of happiness during the 12 months up to March 2023, to give a breakdown of four areas across Somerset.

Figures published by the ONS list Taunton and Somerset West as the top ranking area across the board when compared to Sedgemoor, South Somerset, and Mendip. 

The Somerset West and Taunton area was a cut above in terms of happiness levels, with a score of 7.76 out of ten, higher than the national average of 7.39.

Taunton residents reportedly experienced the least anxiety in Somerset, with a score of 2.67 out of ten, considerably lower than the 3.33 score for South Somerset, and the national average of 3.23.

The area was also considered to be the best part of Somerset for feeling that the things done in life are worthwhile, with a score of 7.9 out of ten, ranking above its county-counterparts and the national average of 7.73.

The final category of life satisfaction was yet another strong point for Somerset West and Taunton, with a score of 7.74 placing it above the rest of Somerset, and the national average.
