A BEAUTIFUL and historic market town in Somerset has been ranked as the top city in the UK for Christmas shopping this year.
Despite being England's smallest city, Which? have chosen Wells as their number one city for festive gift hunting.
The rankings were complied by data from over 3,000 Which? members who rated recent stays in more than 50 UK cities.
Wells was hailed as not only the best small city, but also the best city break in the UK.
Shoppers specifically enjoyed Wells for its cultural sights, but also for the lessened 'hustle and bustle' when compared shopping in other cities - it scored the full five stars for lack of crowds.
Speaking of the Somerset city, Which? said: "Big brands such as Fat Face and White Stuff are along the main high street.
"While the market, a focal point in the town for centuries, is just a short walk away.
"It has a range of stalls selling fresh produce and artisan crafts every Wednesday and Saturday between 9am and 3pm."
