DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has welcomed ten new firefighters to the team.
The following new on-call recruits were all successful in completing their acquisition course:
Adam Woolley, Cheddar; Jacob Loats, Bampton; Joseph Johnson (Moretonhampstead); Eren Raja Sansi (Burnham-on-Sea); William Gibbons, (Crediton); Liam Jones, (Cheddar); Jamie Filler (Wellington); Jake Cooper (Yeovil); Alisha Wales (Okehampton); William Harvey (Appledore).
On-call firefighters man most of DS Fire's stations, completing the same emergency work as wholetime firefighters, but with the availability to also work other jobs.
Whilst on duty, they carry a pager, which activates when they need to attend an incident.
They must live or work no more than five minutes from their respective fire station.
The acquisition course completed by the new recruits helps those with no previous experience of firefighting to become fully fledged firefighters.
All that's needed to enrol is 'the passion to protect and help your community, and a good level of fitness'.
