RESIDENTS in homes on the edge of Taunton have been warned to keep windows and doors closed as firefighters tackle a large lorry blaze this morning (Tuesday, January 2).
Crews from Taunton, Bridgwater and Wellington fire stations were sent to the incident in Staplegrove after it was reported at 1.30am.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the lorry is loaded up with "recyclable electrical items and is well alight".
Crews have been tackling the fire in Frobisher Way using main jets and an aerial ladder platform.
The spokesperson added: "Crews have advised local residents to keep all doors and windows closed until further notice, due to the smoke and smell from the incident."
The spokesperson added at 6.15am today: "Crews are still in attendance and will be for some time.
"Police are also in attendance assisting with cordoning off the area, due to concerns about overhead power lines close to proximity of the fire."
