POLICE are warning householders of suspected rogue traders operating in an area of Minehead.
Officers have received reports of people knocking on doors in and around Alcombe without an appointment and offering to carry out work on a home or garden.
People are being advised that this could involve:
- The work possibly being unnecessary;
- The caller may ask for cash up front and leave without completing the work or even without making a start;
- They may finish the job to poor standard;
- They may overcharge for the work.
A spokesperson for West Somerset and Taunton Neighbourhood Policing said: "You never have to agree on the spot to have work done on your home.
"Call a neighbour or family member if you feel that you are being pressured into having work done.
"We recommend that if you do need any work done, always get three written quotes from reputable companies and discuss these with family and friend before agreeing to any work.
"If the people refuse to leave, call the police on 999."
You can also call 999 straightaway if you notice anyone suspicious around the area you live in which makes you feel unsafe.
General reports and enquiries can be made via 101.
'Attention - No Cold Calling' stickers which can be displayed in your home windows and other crime prevention advice is available from the front office at Minehead Police Station, which is open Mondays to Fridays from 10am to 6pm.
