THE community turned out in force to give one of Wiveliscombe's longest standing shopkeepers a fitting send off.
Alison McKinley was treated to a surprise get together after she closed the doors of Carousel Pig, in High Street, after 36 years of trading in the town.
The unique little shop has been held in such high esteem by the residents of Wiveliscombe and also by others who have visited from near and afar to enjoy its charm.
The surprise occasion was hosted in the recently refurbished White Hart in The Square.

Townspeople and other business owners packed into the hotel to wish her well and everyone enjoyed a Miles coffee and tea in the White Hart, where the menu also strongly supports local producers.
A speech was given by Cllr Roger Wilson, chairman of Wiveliscombe Town Council, who said how lucky Wivey is to support such a wonderful wealth of independent shops and to thank Alison her for all her years of attracting so many to the town with her eclectic and individual gifts.
The new owner of the premises, Ally Kennen, was welcomed and introduced to everyone, passing on her plans for her newly acquired shop.
Ally, a local and well-known children’s author, will be opening a book shop called Chocolate Books and will undoubtedly be well supported when it opens later in the year.
Alison received a carousel cake made by local baker Lauren Bristow, flowers from local florist Jan Boddington from Blue Shed flowers and an engraved vase and champagne.
She will still keep some of her business online, but plans to spend more time relaxing and enjoying her home and garden in Wiveliscombe.
