A TAUNTON business that prides itself on being the “UK's largest teddy bear shop” has ridden the wave of a busy Christmas into January.

World of Bears is located on 20 Lower Middle Street in the town's independent quarter.

The shop, which operates over three floors, has more than 18,000 toys to choose from such as the popular Jellycats, Charlie Bears and Steiff brands.

Elaine Moodie, owner of the store and its sister shop, The Gorge Bear Co in Cheddar, has been perfecting her teddy bear collection for the last 20 years.

Whilst The Gorge Bear Co is slightly smaller, it still stocks quality products across its two floors.

Elaine, who has always loved teddy bears, saw a boost in business over the festive period.

She said: “We had a busy time over Christmas.

“Jellycats have a huge following. We also stock Charlie Bears, Steiff and Hansa toys.

“We like to source things and be different.”

Looking ahead to 2024, Elaine said the store will carry on providing great customer service and stocking unique products, including mugs and cards.

“We will focus on being different and stocking new ranges and doing what we are doing,” she said.

The team at World of Bears feels passionately about the importance of high street stores, which provide a welcome alternative to shopping online.

Elaine also expressed her love for Taunton and said she enjoys people being able to come in-store and feel the quality of the products on offer. 

“With a bricks-and-mortar store you can feel the product and cuddle the product,” she said.

“We don't want the High Street to die. Taunton has so much to offer.”

World of Bears prides itself on catering to all age groups.
