EXECEPTIONAL people known for going above and beyond for others will be recognised in this year's Pride of Somerset Youth Awards (POSYA).
Founded by the Rotary Club of Taunton, the awards were created to honour the amazing achievements of young individuals throughout the county, whether it be in the arts, sports, or even overcoming personal challenges.
Sponsored by Young Somerset, the Charity/Volunteer Hero Award aims to celebrate those who give up their time to care for and help others.
The charity prides itself on being the largest of its kind in the region. As explained on the Young Somerset website, the organisation delivers services that are aligned to statutory provision and that enrich and support young people's lives.
This includes young peoples' personal, social, economic or educational development.
Young Somerset runs the Bold & Brave store in Taunton, which helps people gain employability skills.
In the 2023 awards, volunteer at the shop, Beth Yetton, was recognised as being an inspiration for the people that work there.
Speaking at the time, a spokesperson for the charity said: “Beth’s kind and caring nature is second to none.”
The Community Hero award is also up for grabs. Sponsored by Bridgwater United Community Sports Trust, the Community Hero Award is dedicated to recognising and celebrating the young individuals or groups who have performed selfless acts leading to a substantial impact on their communities.
When will the award ceremony take place?
This year, the award ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 16, 6.30pm-9pm at The McMillan Theatre, Bridgwater.
