A Somerset author is coming to a Taunton bookshop to talk about her debut novel.
Jennie Godfrey will be at Waterstones to discuss The List of Suspicious Things.
The book, published by Penguin on February 15, tells an insightful tale set in a Yorkshire community during the Ripper-era, where two young girls attempt to uncover the mystery behind disappearing women.
Drawing inspiration from her own experiences growing up in West Yorkshire in the 1970s, Ms Godfrey's story is driven by poignant memories and a desire to recount the lives of the mill-working generation that preceded hers.
She was born after the mills had ceased to operate and was the first family member who broke tradition and attended university.
A significant career shift later led her to leave a corporate job in 2020 and start writing.
Recently, the Somerset resident, who is also a part-time Waterstones bookseller, appeared on the Radio 2 Book Club show hosted by Zoe Ball.
The BBC has also endorsed her work, with the novel being picked as a 'best debut for 2024'.
Jennie Godfrey will be presenting her book in Waterstones Taunton on February 20, at 7pm.
Tickets are open for booking and can be obtained from the Waterstones website or directly from the store on 01823 333113.
