ORGANISERS are already planning for next year after the Taunton Swimathon was back at the weekend following a four-year gap.
Christine Briggs, of the organising committee said it was "great to be back again", even though the event wasn't so big as previous years.
She added: "We feel sure next year will be bigger with lots more teams.
"Everyone who came really enjoyed. Teams from previously told us how they had missed it and were so pleased that the event was back."
There were teams from local solicitors, accountants, the Environment Agency and families to mention a few, as well as participants representing the nominated charities - Young Somerset, Somerset Counselling Centre and Ups and Downs South West.
Mrs Briggs added: "It was great to see them helping us raise money for all of the three charities
"There was such a great atmosphere with everyone having fun as we always intend."
More than 130 swimmers took part this time, with the highest number of laps being 85 by the TDSC Duo team of two young swimmers.
They were closely followed by Team Sanch 1 with 84 laps. Team Sanch entered 5 teams who have already raised over £1,000.
The UK Hydrographers were somewhat depleted when only one swimmer arrived, but gamely swam for the full 53 minutes, completing more than 40 laps.
Taunton Mayor Cllr Nick O'Donnell attended and opened the event on the second day.
Mrs Briggs said: "A big thank you to Taunton School for generously allowing us the use of the pool and to all the helpers, but mostly the thanks must go to the swimmers for coming and raising so much money for these very worthwhile local good causes.
"At the end of the weekend £6,246 had already been banked. We know there is a lot more money pledged so we are expecting that figure to rise significantly.
"On a dull cold February weekend watching everyone leave with a happy smile on their face as they proudly wore their well earned medals surely gives you a warm feeling and certainly brought a smile to all of our faces."
