A GRANT of over £35,000 has been given to a homeless charity in Taunton by the UK Government.
The day centre, which ensures that those part of Taunton's homeless population have their basic needs met, has been awarded £35,498 from the Community Organisations Cost of Living Fund to ensure they can continue their services.
The charity thanked the government for their support in ensuring homeless people in Taunton have the help they need.
A spokesperson for Taunton Open Door said: "Local charities like The Open Door (Taunton) face a challenging fundraising environment.
"Funding from the Community Organisations Cost of Living Fund delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund, has helped us to continue our vital work with the homeless community in Taunton.
"A generous grant of £35,498 has made a massive difference during this financial year, 2023/24. Working with over 30 volunteers we have been able to continue to provide healthy food and access to fresh clothing and shower facilities five days a week to people in the greatest of need.
"Through our partner agencies we have helped many homeless people in Taunton gain access to permanent accommodation. Thanks to the Government for making this possible."
