THE final race at a horse racing event was abandoned due to a 'medical incident' on Saturday (March 9).
During Quantock Point to Point, at Cothelstone near Bishop's Lydeard, an ambulance was called to deal with some attendees at the event, and one patient was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 15:03hrs on Saturday 9 March to an incident near Bishop’s Lydeard. We sent a double-crewed land ambulance and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital.”
According to the South West Animal Rights Movement, a personal blog on Facebook, paramedics were called due to some 'youngsters' being 'under the influence of illegal substances'.
However, after speaking with someone close to the two individuals, it was confirmed that they were spiked and the matter is now being dealt with by Avon and Somerset Police.
The pair were reportedly spiked through the means of a vape that was laced with drugs and were left in a very serious condition in hospital.
The person close to the two racegoers wished to appeal to parents out there to be extra vigilant with their children around vaping.
A spokesperson for Quantock Point to Point said that because the ambulances were dealing with another incident, there were none to cover the last race and so the day was forced to end early.
"The final race, a Maiden, had to be abandoned due to a medical incident which was non-racing related," the spokesperson added.
"It meant that there were no ambulances available to cover the race itself and thus sadly organisers were forced to end the day early."
