A FROME care home resident with a passion for wrestling has had his dream to watch a match come true.
Wrestling-mad Roy Lambert, 96, lives at Care UK's Rossetti House on Welshmill Lane.
When he shared his passion for the sport, the home decided to surprise him with a special trip to CFS Professional Wrestling’s All Nations Championship at the Cheese and Grain venue in Frome.
This was part of the home's Wishing Tree Initiative, which encourages residents to reconnect with past hobbies or even try something completely new.
After the match, Roy was able to meet some of his wrestling icons, including Jake McCluskey, The Blockbusters, Bane ‘n’ Bronson and the All Nations Champion NIWA, who showed him his winning belt.
Roy explained that the wrestlers really looked after him and give him the VIP treatment.
He said: “It was a great evening, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere, everyone was there to have fun. My favourite thing was meeting the wrestlers after the show, they really looked after me.”
Philip Vale, general manager at Rossetti House, said: “We were delighted to create a memorable afternoon for Roy, which fulfilled his passion for wrestling. It was fantastic to surprise him and see what a wonderful time he had.
“At Rossetti House, we love to support residents’ wellbeing with activities and trips that are important to them. We encourage residents to continue to enjoy their favourite pastimes and share memories which hold special importance to them.
“The team was thrilled to be able to organise this trip for Roy – he hasn’t stopped smiling since.”
