THE Somerset Anne Frank Creative Writing awards was formed in 2010, and recognises the tremendous literature skills of the youth in Somerset.
On Thursday, March 21 it returned, with many young people from all over Somerset attending Wells Cathedral for the Award Ceremony.
Guest author Wafa’ Tarnowska, alongside the late Paul Heim’s daughters, Andrea Pyle and Dominique Curtis, presented the awards this year.
A shortlist of entries of young people ages between 9-18, KS2-5, was whittled down to get a 3rd, 2nd and 1st place prize winner among three categories, adjudicated by the Somerset Anne Frank Youth Awards committee.
The winners of the three age groups were Kinga Dudzinska (KS2), Amira Higgs (KS3), and Hadley Carreras-Bennett (KS4/5).
Asheleigh Niescierowicz and Mayeesha Muhammad took home the prize for the Paul Heim poetry and prose awards, respectively.
All shortlisted entrants were invited to Wells Cathedral and received a copy of ‘The Diary of a Young Girl – Anne Frank’, alongside a certificate.
First, second and third place all received book vouchers as a congratulations as well.
