The Quantock Foodbank is making history with its fully electric vehicle supplying goods to the local community.

The new Ford E-Transit L3 Chassis, equipped with a custom-built insulated box body by Paneltex, is a novel device for battling food poverty in Quantock, West Somerset.

Costing £80,000, the vehicle runs on zero-emissions and carries integrated solar panels that power the vehicle's internal refrigerator, lights and other smaller items.

Marlene Mason, manager of the Quantock Foodbank, said: "This incredible vehicle is a testament to the dedication and innovation of our team and supporters.

The addition of this mobile foodbank and pantry will escalate Quantock Foodbank's reach to more remote villages while delivering nutritious food to a greater number of families in need.

Moreover, the vehicle is in-line with Somerset's goal of being a carbon-neutral county by 2030, contributing to cleaner air in the West Somerset region, and reducing the foodbank's environmental impact.

The vehicle was obtained thanks to community fundraising, corporate sponsorships, and small grants - an aggregate effort of the Quantock community.

To ensure a smooth operation of this mobile pantry, the Quantock Foodbank is seeking additional volunteers.
