Children and young people across Somerset have been asked to have their say on a new plan to support people under the age of 25.

Somerset Council and its partners in Health and Care Services are in the process of creating a new Children and Young People’s Plan (CYPP).

This plan will detail the council's objectives for 2024-2030 and aims to clarify how services and communities are accountable for the welfare of children and young people.

The development of the plan will rely heavily on the input from the young population to ensure it is reflective of their desires and needs.

To facilitate this, the council is launching an online survey where individuals aged below 25 can express their thoughts on various priorities.

The Somerset Youth Forum has suggested these to include: improvement in education experience, healthier lifestyles, mental health support, safer communities, improved relationships and preparation for adulthood.

Councillor Heather Shearer, lead member for children, families and education, said: "At Somerset Council, we want every young person living in the county to be safe, happy, healthy and prepared for adulthood.

"The Children and Young People's Plan helps us, and our partners, create a nurturing environment to allow this.

"It is vital that young people of Somerset have the opportunity to share their voice, shape the policies that support them and hold our performance to account."

The council is encouraging teachers, youth workers and anyone working with children to assist in sharing this survey.

The deadline for survey completion is June 7 at 5pm.

Session plans and evidence forms for group activity are also available to support the young people in taking part.
