OLYMPIC bronze-medallist gymnasts Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova are set to be the star guests at Wellsprings Leisure Centre’s free open day next month.
Taking place on Saturday, June 8, the all-day event is being hosted in honour of Wellsprings Leisure Centre’s 20th anniversary and will welcome the community to join in the celebrations with a fun-filled day of activities.
The local facility, which is run by Everyone Active in partnership with Somerset Council, has a long history of supporting young gymnasts within Taunton and beyond.
In recognition of this, the event will star Team GB gymnasts Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova, who both bagged bronze medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The famous sporting sisters will be offering top tips to budding gymnasts during the event, as well as taking part in an exclusive Q&A. Visitors will be able to meet the Olympic stars and get their autographs too.
Alongside that, a range of free sports and fitness activities will be on offer throughout the day, including gymnastics taster classes, a ‘beat the goalie’ challenge, PT sessions and foot tennis classes.
What’s more, a mass group exercise class will be taking place, with participants encouraged to wear retro fancy dress to reflect what the class would be like 20 years ago.
Parents will welcome the array of family-friendly activities on offer, such as face painting and balloon making.
Refreshments will be available throughout the day, with the centre providing BBQ food for visitors to enjoy.
Paul Dodd, general manager at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, said: “We’re so excited to host our upcoming open day in celebration of the centre’s 20th anniversary.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to reflect on what Wellsprings Leisure Centre has achieved over the past two decades and welcome the local community to celebrate this milestone with us.
“It’s an honour to have Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova join us for the event and we imagine the budding young gymnasts of Taunton will be very excited for a chance to meet such inspiring Olympic athletes.
“It’s set to be a fun-filled day with activities on offer for everyone. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a birthday celebration without cake – so that’s something else for people to look forward to."
The event will take place from 9am until 5pm. For more information, please visit here.
