BISHOPS Hull choir Singsational took home a silver medal at a UK-wide competition in Sheffield earlier this month.
Singsational, an acapella chorus that meets at Bishops Hull Primary School each week, placed second at the Sweet Adeline’s annual convention on May 11 — competing against groups from across the UK and Netherlands.
The group performed renditions of All Of Me by John Legend and L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole and took home the silver medal.
Edinburgh-based Forth Valley Chorus won the gold and will progress to Sweet Adeline’s International competition set to be held in Ohio, United States, next year.
Fifteen of Singsational’s all-women chorus performed in the Region #31 contest and won the Sheila Doherty award for the highest percentage of new performers on stage.
Mary Lowe, a member of the Singsational chorus, said: “That was the first time we’ve competed in four or five years because of Covid and we’d been without a director for two and a half years.
“We’ve got a new director Kris Emmett who’d been working with us for about six weeks [before the competition]. Assistant directors Katie and Sarah got us to the point where Kris took over and polished it.”
Mary added: “My favourite part of Singsational is being together, singing with like-minded people, and it’s such a lovely bunch and we all get on famously.
“I’ve only been with them for 18 months, but they welcomed me with open arms.”
The Singsational chorus is looking for more members to join, all voice-parts welcome. The group meets at Bishops Hull Primary School on Thursday 7:30pm until 10pm.
