ARK at Egwood is an intergenerational land-based day service for people of all ages, needs and abilities. Based upon 12 acres of land and woodland, ARK creates a safe, outdoor space for people to relax, engage with others and improve their overall health and wellbeing. It grows its own produce, vegetables and flowers, and offers a number of rural-based arts and crafts, cooking, hedge laying and other activities on site.
ARK stands for Acts of Random Kindness and also provides volunteering opportunities for people to help on-site with horticulture, cooking, attendees, workshops, and courses.
It has also recently become one of two NHS Somerset-funded Armed Forces Hubs, looking to improve the support provided to the Armed Forces in Somerset which includes those serving, veterans, and their families.
The charity provides support for children and young people's social, emotional and mental health, as well as their education.
The ARK hosts workshops and courses run in conjunction with Somerset Skills and Learning, including willow weaving, cyanotype, and health and wellbeing courses. It also offers regular community activities including Tai Chi, community lunches, yoga, and health walks.
ARK has previously hosted Italian, Mexican, and Greek-themed supper nights that were a roaring success. The ARK’s themed suppers are a great chance to check out the incredible work being done at the community hub.
Visit arkategwood.com for more information. ARK is located at Egwood House, Merriott, Somerset, TA16 5QN.
