THERE will be a chance to ride vintage buses in Taunton this weekend.

An impressive fleet of thirty well-preserved classic vehicles, dating from 1934 through to 2006, will provide free bus services throughout the town and beyond, kicking off from the former Taunton Bus Station.

This nostalgic event on Sunday, June 2, masterminded by the Thames Valley & Great Western Omnibus Trust (TV&GWOT), will start at 10am, with the last bus returning at 5.45pm.

Travellers will be treated to a host of interesting stops on the route, from Wellington's Sheppy's Cider Farm and Rumwell Farm Shop to Bishop's Lydeard, the home of the West Somerset Railway.

Journeys will also travel out to Stoke St. Mary, Corfe, Wiveliscombe and an intriguing 'Mystery Tour' to the Blackdown Hills.

A frequent town service will operate throughout the day.

Detailed programmes of the day's event can be purchased from the County Classics Motor Museum, North Street, Taunton, at a cost of £7 or online with postal delivery through the TV&GWOT website for just an additional £1.

The programme presents an engaging historical journey, including a schoolboy's memories from the 1960s and the story of a 65-year-old Taunton double-decker bus being restored to its original state.

Information stands presented by both TV&GWOT and the Somerset Bus Partnership will be stationed at Castle Green.

Event organisers have expressed their thanks to Somerset Council, NHS Somerset and Taunton Council for permission to use both the former Bus Station and Castle Green.

One of the highlights of the vintage fleet will be Western National Bristol FLF6G No. 1969, crafted back in 1960, having made a previous appearance at Taunton's 2014 vintage bus day event.

Another treasure to look out for includes a vehicle with a 1936 Cumberland chassis that was rebodied after the war.

Taunton's very own No. 300, a Ford Transit 16-seater that replaced the traditional double-deckers in 1985, will also hit the road once again.

The organisers of the vintage bus day additionally manage an annual long-distance coach run that spans three to four days.

In 2009, this showcased a preserved express coach, bearing the legacy of Western National, who provided the town's bus service from 1929 to 1983, precursors to today's Buses of Somerset.
