COUNTY Gazette readers and Taunton locals have named their favourite things about living in Somerset's county town.

And the responses were broadly positive, with many rushing to give shout outs to local businesses and attractions.

One nature-lover said: "The canal, river and parks with easy access to the beautiful Quantocks."

While a fan of the arts and entertainment on offer in Taunton added: "The creativity and arts that the Brewhouse, CICCIC, Genius Events and others bring to the town."

Town events also earned high praise from residents, as Taunton received praise for hosting Armed Forces Day, Taunton Pride and more.

For some, the charm lay in the local amenities and workforce.

As one reader pointed out: "The restaurant and café in the Motor Museum is absolutely lovely".

Another appreciated the various occupations that keep the town running, saying: "The best part of Taunton and Somerset is us - the everyday people that keep the cogs going."

Sports clubs – including the county cricket club, which plays in the town – and Taunton Town FC were also praised as community hubs.

Another reader highlighted: "One of the many great things about Taunton is its community.

"We have an incredible community that supports diverse groups that make up the town, including support groups, arts and culture, and business."

Yet, despite the general positivity, some readers aired their frustrations with Taunton.

Others did raise some problems they have with the town, ranging from pot holes to a "lack of nightclubs and things for the youth to do".
