GLASTONBURY Festival will celebrate the life of DJ and presenter Annie Nightingale on the day she used to broadcast live from Worthy Farm.

Festival-goers will pay tribute to Nightingale, who died in January at the age of 83, in two parts on Thursday, June 27 – day two of the festival.

Nightingale was BBC Radio 1's first-ever female presenter who stayed on air until last year with her show Annie Nightingale Presents....

She was also known for co-hosting TV music show The Old Grey Whistle Test.

The celebration of her life will begin during the daytime at The Glade before moving to the BBC Introducing Stage when darkness falls.

A festival spokesperson said: “Annie Nightingale loved Glastonbury Festival.

“Her BBC Radio 1 show was broadcast from the festival on Thursday nights through the 2000s from Silver Hayes and The Glade, and the last time she played the festival, in 2017, was on The Glade Main Stage.

“So it’s fitting that the Celebration of Annie’s life starts in The Glade on Thursday before moving to the BBC Introducing Stage for the after-dark part two.”

The Glade Dome will host the daytime celebration, featuring the The Nextmen Ft Kiko Bun and Fish56Octagon, who will play a set of her favourite tunes.

One of her favourite acts, The Orb, who she championed and brought to a wider audience in the early 1990s, will also perform.

At the BBC Introducing Stage, DJs will play the music Annie helped uncover, including a back-to-back set from Krafty Kuts and Plump DJs.

The spokesperson added: “Bringing the latest sounds that Annie loved to discover is Martha, who Annie mentored and is carrying on her legacy discovering new music and giving artists a window to the world.”
