THE Langport Arms will remain open following a car crash that destroyed the porch of the 600-year-old pub.
A Peugeot crashed into the historic pub and hotel on Cheapside, Langport, at around 8pm on Saturday.
An ambulance attended and no serious injuries were reported. Avon and Somerset Police assisted with the temporary road closure and no arrests were made.
The Langport Arms' management said it would remain open as usual, and that it was a “miracle” no one had been seriously injured in the crash.
The car remains lodged under the porch, with temporary traffic lights on Bow Street to help with traffic around the pub.
The Langport Arms Hotel said in a statement: “At around 8pm there was an incident involving a collision into our pillared porch and balcony in front of the hotel main entrance. A car was involved and thankfully no one has been seriously injured!
“However the front entrance to our hotel is blocked and the balcony has been structurally damaged. Emergency services were called immediately and first aid was offered onsite immediately.
“We are thankful and very much grateful to our employees who acted so promptly during this shocking and trying time. We hope you understand that we will be unable to provide updates upon the incident as we continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities.
“However we want to make it clear that the hotel bar is open and the Sunday Carvery is still open. The side door will be our main entrance for the time being.
“Due to the current situation, we are unable to offer direct disabled access, however, we will endeavour to support as much as we can. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.”
