The BBC Radio 4 Today Programme is holding a hustings in the new constituency of Wells and Mendip Hills on Tuesday 11th June, as part of its coverage of the 2024 General Election campaign.

An audience of voters will have the chance to put their questions to candidates standing to represent them. The debate will be chaired by Today presenter Justin Webb.

Justin says: “I’m hugely looking forward to this event. I hope we have a civilised and thoughtful debate involving the candidates and local people: we are aiming for as much light as heat!”

Wells and Mendip Hills is one of 5 constituencies the Today Programme has adopted to tell the story of the election across the UK.

They are: Wells and Mendip Hills, Norwich North, Dagenham and Rainham, Motherwell, Wishaw & Carluke, and Bolton West.

Although The Today Programme will not be hosting a husting in every adopted constituency, Today will be broadcasting live from each constituency throughout the campaign.

The hustings will take place from 6pm at Blackford Village Hall, near Wedmore. It will be open to ticketholders only.

Voters who live in the Wells and Mendip Hills constituency can apply for free tickets by emailing alisonfuller21@btinternet.com.

Attendees will be invited to submit questions they would like to put to the candidates.

Today Programme listeners will be able to hear the highlights on the Today Programme on 12th June.
