HUNDREDS of residents attended a free open day on Saturday (June 8) at Wellsprings Leisure Centre.
The event was hosted in honour of the leisure centre’s 20th anniversary, inviting families from Taunton to join in the celebrations with a fun-filled day of activities.
Olympic bronze-medallist gymnasts Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova were the star guests at the event – with children lining up to meet the Team GB athletes.
The sporting sisters also took part in a Q&A and offered their top tips to budding gymnasts.
The centre – which is managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Somerset Council – marked its birthday with a cake as the team and Gadirova twins gathered for celebratory photographs.
Families enjoyed the array of kid-friendly activities on offer, such as face painting and balloon making, while others took advantage of the free sports and fitness sessions available, including gymnastics, PT and foot tennis.
Paul Dodd, general manager at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, said: “We were delighted with the turnout at our open day – it was fantastic to see the community come together and celebrate 20 years with us.
“This event was the perfect opportunity to reflect on what Wellsprings Leisure Centre has done for the local community over the past two decades.
And with our long history of supporting young gymnasts, it was an honour to recognise that with our special guests, Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova.
“A massive thank you to everyone who came along – here’s to the next 20 years.”
