A MAN from Somerset who has pledged to climb Mount Snowdon in a wheelchair has raised over £33,000 for charity.

Josh Wintersgill, 30, from Shepton Mallet. and Maxwell McKnight, 19, who both have spinal muscular atrophy, hope to set a world record for the fastest climb up Mount Snowdon in a powered wheelchair.

The pair hope to raise £100,000 for charity Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK for their #KnowNoBounds campaign.

On Saturday, June 15, Josh and Maxwell will scale the Welsh peak to raise awareness for the inaccessibility of many hiking spots for disabled people.

To donate to the fundraiser, visit the JustGiving page.

With a single wheelchair costing £25,000 to buy, they hope to raise enough money to buy new mobility chairs and for people with SMA to safely explore the outdoors.

Joshua Wintersgill, disability entrepreneur and campaigner leading the event said: “I’m proud of what the #KnowNoBounds campaign has accomplished so far.

"To raise national awareness about what we’re doing means a huge amount and the money raised so far, makes us more determined to achieve our goal and to highlight the challenges many people face on a daily basis.”
