One person was airlifted to hospital and another was taken by ambulance following a collision between a Renault Clio and a Land Rover towing a trailer on the A303’s Southfields roundabout.

Emergency services were called to the incident just before 7pm on Sunday. Crew from fire stations in Taunton, Ilminster, and Chard attended, along with the police, and ambulance service.

Hydraulic-cutting equipment was used to release one of the three casualties who was trapped.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 18:53hrs on Sunday 16 June to a road traffic collision near Ilminster.

“We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an air ambulance, two operations officers and a critical care car to the scene and we conveyed one patient by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital and one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital.”

A spokesperson for Dorset and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “3 Fire Engines and a Heavy Rescue unit, were all sent to a report of a road traffic collision involving one car and one small truck on the A303 near Ilminster.

“One person was still trapped in one of the vehicles, so crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to release the casualty and hand them over to the Ambulance crews.

National Highways: South West said the A303 was closed in both directions between the #A358 (#HortonCross) and B3170 (#Marsh) "for recovery and clean-up" following a "serious collision involving 2 cars".

The road has since been fully re-opened in both directions, with no delays reported.
