A SOMERSET rewilding site has been named one of the best new camping and glamping spots in the country by The Guardian.

Heal Somerset, near Frome, was named among the newspaper's 'Best New Camping and Glampsites Around the UK' in May.

The recognition celebrates the serene rewilding site as a top destination for nature lovers and campers seeking tranquillity in the heart of the county.

The Guardian's feature highlights exceptional new campsites and glampsites, showcasing unique locations that offer more than just a place to pitch a tent.

These sites provide an immersive experience in nature, combining comfort with a deep appreciation for the environment.

The newspaper said: "The Heal Somerset rewilding site comprises 186 hectares of undulating pasture, with miles of hedgerows, three small tributaries of the River Frome, mature oaks and many other trees.

"It is in the early stages of rewilding, having been bought in December 2022, but nature is already bouncing back, especially in the southern and eastern fields.

"New this summer is an almost-wild basic camping site – a mown field for tents only, with portable toilets and a tap."

Jan Stannard, acting CEO and Chair of Trustees of Heal Somerset, has expressed her delight at the recognition.

She said: "We are thrilled to have featured in The Guardian’s list of ‘The best new camping and glampsites around the UK’.

"We’re hoping that the mention will help put the Heal Somerset campsite on the map for people looking to enjoy the peace and solace that comes from spending the night in the heart of a rewilding site."
