RECYCLING crews will be out collecting tomorrow (Saturday, July 6) following a week of disruption caused by multiple closures of the M5.

The message for anyone who has had a missed collection in the last few days is to leave it out, as Somerset Council said “crews will get to you as soon as possible”.

Collections were disrupted by emergency closures of the M5 on Friday, June 28, Monday, July 1, and Thursday, July 4.

The closures and associated congestion made it impossible for crews to complete their rounds and at times prevented access to depots where vehicles are emptied.

Crews have worked hard to catch up throughout the week. Rubbish and garden waste have been prioritised, meaning some households have had delayed recycling collections.

The emergency closure of the M5 on Thursday prevented crews from completing their catch-up work from earlier in the week.

The majority of Saturday recycling collections should be from villages around Taunton which were due a collection today (Friday 5 July), including Creech St Michael, Ruishton, Monkton Heathfield, and Cheddon Fitzpaine.

Any recycling not collected on Saturday should be returned for on Monday, July 8.
