TAUNTON and Wellington's new MP Gideon Amos has carried out his first official engagement this morning: opening Somerset Armed Forces Day.

The popular free event is taking place today (Saturday) in Taunton's Vivary Park.

Armed Forces Day features a huge range of displays, stands and activities, such as a Red Arrows flypast, which attract thousands of people to the county town.

Mr Amos said: “I couldn't be prouder to be here today at Armed Forces Day.

“I'm wearing the Army Cadet Force uniform because I'm a helper/instructor with the Army Cadet Force and have been for quite a long time.

“Previously, I've been in the Territorial Army, and my father was in the Army (and) my uncles were in the Army.

“I'm really delighted that opening Armed Forces Day has been my first official event as your member of parliament for Taunton and Wellington.”
