A TAUNTON resident said she was concerned about a team of street cleaners who was left with “nowhere to stay or have a break” after the building they used was vandalised.

Susan Glenn said she noticed some street cleaners from the Taunton Town Ranger team sat on the floor of the High Street Car Park with nowhere to go “to take their breaks and wash their hands” after the building on Paul Street was damaged.

She also said: “For the last two Mondays, we saw them sitting on the floor of the car park because the building where they sit has been vandalised.

“They have nowhere to stay to have a break or wash their hands. They do such a great job for us, and they have nowhere to sit to have a break.”

Contractor idverde said they are working with Somerset Council to reopen the facility.

A spokesperson said: “The Town Ranger team previously utilised the Paul Street storage area, conveniently located near Paul Street Car Park, for both storage and team welfare purposes.

“Regrettably, due to an incident of vandalism, Somerset Council decided to close the facility.

“We are currently in discussions with Somerset Council to address the situation and aim to restore access following necessary repairs.

“At this time, we are awaiting confirmation on whether our team will be able to resume use of the facility and are ensuring our employees welfare remains a priority.”
