TAUNTON’S Emily Golden was among a flock of artists involved in the ewe-nique Shaun the Sheep charity sculpture trail in Bristol 13 years ago.
She designed a sculpture called Sparkles the Unicorn, one of 70 5ft creations on show around the city through the summer of 2011.
Emily, then 31, also created Candy Baa for a similar trail in London in 2011 and it took her 30 hours to complete the sculpture.
She said at the time: “After creating Candy Baa, a very brightly coloured Shaun on the London trail, I decided to use pastel shades for my second design.
“I got my paints specially mixed so that they were exactly the right colours I had in mind.
“I also discovered a rainbow glitter glaze that I wanted to use to finish my sculpture.
“I was very much led by my materials, and when I thought of rainbows, glitter, and pastel pinks and purples…I thought of a unicorn.”
Emily is now a children's illustrator and works as Creative Lead for Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal and The Bristol Children's Hospital Charity.
Her masterpiece was grazing at Bristol's Horfield Common. Do you remember seeing the sheep sculptures?
