A CHEMISTRY course manager at a college in Taunton has won an award.
Joanna Clare, Chemistry course manager at Richard Huish College, recently won a Game Changer Award at The Teacher Champion Awards.
Hosted by The University of Bath, the awards aim to recognise and celebrate the important role of teachers, advisors, and support staff in guiding students on their path to university.
Teachers are nominated by current undergraduate students at the university and sixth form students participating in their widening participation programmes.
Jo was nominated by former Huish student Maisie Miles, who said: “I really lacked in confidence during A levels and had very high standards of myself, which was a real struggle.
“I’m not sure how I would have got through college and exams without my Chemistry teacher Jo.
“Even when I wanted to give up or thought that I wasn’t good enough, Jo always believed in me and helped me push through.
“She always made sure that she had time for me and spent countless hours helping me with calculations and practise exam questions, to help prepare me for my exams.
“She also opened her classroom for me to use to revise so I had a safe, quiet space where I could concentrate.
“She helped me with writing my personal statement and put so much effort into writing my reference.
“She also always made me aware of opportunities that would help me to stand out for university applications – this is how I got a work experience placement with In2science.
“I truly believe that I would not be where I am today without Jo and cannot express how grateful I am for everything that she has done for me.”
