TINTINHULL'S St Margaret’s CEVA school has been recognised as one of the greenest schools in Somerset, by the Learning Through Landscapes (LTL) charity.
The charity has chosen the school, among 180 primary and secondary schools in the UK, to take part in the climate-focused initiative: Climate School 180.
Pupils will gain the skills to positively change their school grounds, which will be done sustainably with climate change mitigated, and training will also be developed for teachers.
St Margaret’s CEVA school has been selected as part of this elite green group, and head teacher Hayley Robinson found pride and excitement in this step.
Mrs Robinson said: "This is a great honour. I’m sure we’ll learn a huge amount from the LTL initiative and it’s lovely to be recognised again as one of the greenest schools in Somerset.
“It comes on the back of top awards from the Woodland Trust and RHS, for whom pupils do a regular podcast on gardening."
She added: “We aim to foster understanding around climate change and encourage positive attitudes to change behaviours. In other words, we help our children to love nature and to look after it."
LTL is the UK’s leading outdoor learning and play charity.
