BISHOP'S Lydeard enjoyed its fruitful annual flower show last week, with hundreds of exhibits entered.
The event was held in the village's hall on July 6, and saw 120 people enter a total of 520 exhibits making a lovely display.
Children from the primary school entered sixty 3D models on a rainbow theme and paintings were created by the Brownies.
Local childminders and the school nursery also contributed by creating 30 colourful pictures of monsters with their pre-school age children.
As usual, the Year Six children at the school took part in a creative writing competition in memory of Sir Arthur C Clarke and their work was proudly displayed and admired by over 300 visitors.
Despite it being a tricky year for fruit and vegetables, those on show were of a very high standard.
The still-green tomatoes brought some smiles – but organisers reminded exhibitors that "it’s always worth entering as there’s always a winner in every class".
There was a "stunning" array of different flowers, floral arrangements and floral shrubs, along with a home cooking with 44 individual preserves and chutneys.
Baking was a very popular class, with the cake judge having to taste 25 cakes, and that was before judging the fudge and the cheese scones.
The photography section was competitive with sixty strong contenders in the five categories: Reflections, Feathered Friends, Sport, Food and Vintage.
Kate Foster, the flower show secretary wants to thank "all who took the time to take enter, to those who came and enjoyed the show and to all those involved in making it happen". The show will take place again in July 2025.
