YEAR 4 pupils at Taunton North Town Primary School have raised an incredible £324 for the Wellington-based intergenerational dementia awareness project ‘The Archie Project’.

Run by Reminiscence Learning charity, The Archie Project is carried out in primary schools across the country and links year 3 and 4 pupils.

The project places great importance on the preservation of personal choice and identity and the children explores the many ways in which they can help spread this knowledge and awareness throughout their local communities.

Visits to and ongoing interactions with care home residents allow the children to put their newfound knowledge to great use and provide a wealth of activity, amusement, and conversation for those living in care settings.

North Town Primary School elected to carry out its own fundraiser, raising money for the charity that produces and oversees The Archie Project.

With a playlist supplied by Reminiscence Learning, the children were educated on the many benefits of exercise, music, and movement for those living with dementia and the children then sang and danced their way through an entire action song playlist along with Archie, the beloved red and yellow scarecrow mascot that embodies the project.

A spokesperson for Reminiscence Learning said: “We are so happy to see The Archie Project being embedded in so many schools across the country.

“We firmly believe that this should be standard teaching for all UK primary schools and we are so proud that all Wellington schools and the majority of Taunton-based schools are now taking part, as well as many more all over the country.

“Schools like North Town are so important to us as they have been long-standing, highly involved Project participants and we dearly treasure the relationships we build up with our Project children over the years.

“We would like to pass on our heartfelt thanks to all the children and teachers for their absolutely amazing fundraising efforts.”
