UPDATE: The cow has now been rescued. A fire service spokesperson said: "The cow has now been rescued from the River Parrett by our Bridgwater technical rescue team, assisted by the farmer!"
A COW is currently stuck in the River Parrett, in Bridgwater.
Despite attempts by the fire service to remove the cow this morning (July 13), it remains stranded near to the fire station.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have urged people concerned for the cow not to call 999.
A spokesperson said: "We are aware of the cow in the River Parrett in Bridgwater.
"Our crews have been out this morning but we have been unable to remove her.
"Thanks for your calls, but no need to ring 999 in this instance."
In 2019, a dead cow became stuck in the River Parrett near to Bridgwater town bridge, and remained in place for days due to a responsibility dispute between the former Sedgemoor District Council, and the Environment Agency.
A council spokesperson at the time said the relevant authorities were looking at various methods to retrieve the cow, but its position made it a 'logistical nightmare'.
