THE Taunton Vale Inner Group chose Guide Dogs as their charity of the year and celebrated after handing over £2,939.

The group’s president, Janet Bond, chose to support Guide Dogs for 2023 to 2024 and members of the club raised the money through fundraising events, including a fashion show.

Janet and the members celebrated by having a garden get-together with a buffet and cakes, and inviting volunteers from Guide Dogs’ Taunton Fundraising Group for a cheque presentation.

The total amount raised means they can name a guide dog puppy.

Each member of the club submitted suggestion for the puppy’s name, and the winning names came from Club Secretary Mo Hodges - Monty (if a boy) or Winnie (if a girl).

Naming a puppy is an opportunity for the public to give a guide dog something totally unique – its name.

The club will now be at the heart of a guide dog puppy's story and will follow his journey as they aspire to become a future life-changer.

Dave Arney, the volunteer treasurer for the Taunton fundraising group, said: “The Taunton Fundraising Group would like to say a big heartfelt thank you to Taunton Vale Inner Wheel group for choosing Guide Dogs as its charity of the year, and for making such a generous donation.

“It was lovely to meet the members for the cheque presentation, and enjoy a delicious buffet and strawberry deserts together.”

Krissie Isaac, community fundraising relationship manager covering Somerset at Guide Dogs, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Taunton Vale Inner Wheel group has donated chose Guide Dogs as their charity of the year partner.

“Guide Dogs relies on donations and it’s only through the support of local individuals, groups, and business communities that we can continue our life-changing work.
