A WOMAN has made well over 2,000 bottles of jam and chutney in recent years in aid of her local village fete.
Jam maker Janet Weeks has built up a loyal group of customers over the years, selling over 300 jam jars at last year’s event – including to someone from as far away as New Zealand!
She usually takes in over £600 in fete earnings, which helps support Fitzhead church and Tithe Barn.
However, this year may be Janet’s last-ever event.
Her recipes are from everywhere, but Janet loves to experiment with different flavours. She loves spices, and creates mixes like plum and cardamom jam, marmalade with rum and even tomato chilli jam.
Janet is a huge part of raising money at the fete, and she said she couldn’t do what she does without the support of fellow villagers offering fruit, sugar, and empty jar donations.
She said: “I enjoy the fete day more and more.
“I get stressed getting everything in boxes and up to the cricket ground, especially if it’s raining, but once the punters come I really enjoy it, and the little comments from people make it all worthwhile.”
If you want to try some of Janet’s homemade speciality, you can find her at Fitzhead Fete, held at Fitzhead cricket ground, on Saturday, July 27, from 2pm until 4.30pm.
There will also be a host of other stalls, a barbecue and more.
As part of the event, on Sunday, July 28, there will also be a duck race in aid of the fete at Holcombe Farm at the bottom of Tyler’s Lane.
