TAUNTON Shire Hall building could re-open early next year after “extensive renovations” work will be completed.
The building hosting the Crown Court is undergoing refurbishment works to improve brickwork and roof and floor repairs.
Shire Hall was closed back in September 2023, after a maintenance project started back in February 2022, and it could re-open in early 2025.
Until then, listed cases will be heard in Worle.
An HM Courts and Tribunals Service spokesperson said: “Taunton Shire Hall is undergoing extensive renovations including improving brickwork, roof and floor repairs, and refurbishing windows.
“While timeframes to complete work of this scale are subject to change, we aim to re-open the court in early 2025 and listed cases will be heard at North Somerset Courthouse in Worle in the meantime.”
The building is owned by Somerset Council and is on a 999-year lease to the Ministry of Justice.
