VISITING Shepton Mallet Prison has been recognised as one of the best things to do in the world.
For its sixth year in a row, the former prison in Somerset has been given the 2024 Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice Award.
This means it is in the top 10 per cent of worldwide attractions.
Joel Campbell, CEO of Shepton Mallet Prison, said: "We are very pleased to receive the Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Award for the 6th year running.
"This ongoing recognition not only celebrates the hard work of our entire team but supports our mission to preserve this iconic historical site."
Boasting a wealth of immersive experiences, the prison offers a unique look into inmate life, historical displays, and even a state-of-the-art planetarium.
Feedback has been plentiful and positive, contributing to its high Tripadvisor ranking.
The prison's popularity shows no sign of waning, with many visitors, or 'repeat offenders', as the prison fondly calls them, already planning their summer visits.
A spokesperson added: "We would like to thank our visitors for their positive feedback about their experience.
"We look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests, and strive to win this exciting award again next year."
